Exploring New England at the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Worcester, MA is only a short 45 minute drive west along the Massachusetts turnpike and I frequently visit the Mass Audubon Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary to pursue macro photography. Worcester is a great town and has many interesting areas to explore. One area is Green Hill Park that can be easily reached via the Skyline Drive. At the end of the road there is a small petting zoo, a pond next to the Green Hill golf course and the Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The Massachusetts Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a powerful monument providing a place of dignity and quietude in a natural location for reflection, teaching and learning. The memorial is designed in three sections; place of flags, place of words and place of names.

The Memorial Image here shows the place of words with text engraved into granite stones from letters written home to families by some of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who died in Vietnam. In the back of the picture is the place of flags which is a beautifully landscaped, circular monument with 3 flags: an American Flag, the State Flag of Massachusetts and a POW/MIA Flag.

Hope you find the time to stop by when you are in the area and pay your tribute to these heroes.

Good light and happy photo making!
