<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small; line-height: 115%;">Now, let's get to the meat of this blog post and 15 fall foliage photography tips, hope you explore, enjoy and share!<br />
<br />
<b>Photo Tip #1: </b>Plan your New England fall foliage leaf peeping and
photography trips well in advance and at peak times or near peak. There are many
sites that provide the required information and provide accurate foliage reports for color
and leaf drop.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: small; line-height: 115%;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #2:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Use a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polarizing_filter_%28photography%29" target="_blank">Polarizing Filter</a> to boost color and balance the contrast in your
photography image. The filter eliminates unwanted and distracting glare and
reflections on wet leaves and one can think of it as sunglasses for your
camera. Overall, these filters increase color saturation, boost blue sky, add
cloud contrast, control reflections and add neutral density to lengthen
exposure times for blurred, impressionistic images.</span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #3:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Utilize lowest possible ISO settings like ISO 100 and below for higher quality
pictures. Do not use your camera Auto ISO setting since at low light conditions
it will adjust to higher ISO settings that may produces more noise. Instead get
in the habit of using your tripod even when sufficient light is available. On
a different note using our tripod will benefit in better and more pleasing compositions
as well.</span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #4:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Consider the weather forecast. For example get out after a rain storm has
passed to take advantage of beautiful lighting conditions when the sunlight
breaks through and provides us with spectacular lighting conditions on fall
foliage. Air is clearest in the morning and after rain making for good times to
strive for stunning and scenic autumn landscape photography compositions.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBBj0nlHaWFfqo24HpGTsx3S6y_iFK07tjVXIna00us1b2ZuPK93szt0-1mZXV3ECfk9C8zAyV8BaxA9aqUZVw7uvf1pvBcngxFVhnZXvc6xGDT2CUXeJ4zQF4KXlzhIuqFZ6awinwl4WPm0gh5eiUjbWbSU6qVa1bn6at7L4p9ebRbPB5MqTiGfq2Wjo/s1024/Meredith-New-Hampshire-Fall-Colors-Photography-Images-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="670" data-original-width="1024" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBBj0nlHaWFfqo24HpGTsx3S6y_iFK07tjVXIna00us1b2ZuPK93szt0-1mZXV3ECfk9C8zAyV8BaxA9aqUZVw7uvf1pvBcngxFVhnZXvc6xGDT2CUXeJ4zQF4KXlzhIuqFZ6awinwl4WPm0gh5eiUjbWbSU6qVa1bn6at7L4p9ebRbPB5MqTiGfq2Wjo/w400-h261/Meredith-New-Hampshire-Fall-Colors-Photography-Images-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div></span></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #5:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Do not be fooled and discouraged by overcast and rainy day weather forecasts. Cloudy
days make for beautiful balanced light and provide us photographers with
minimal wind and beautiful light to capture sharp details in leaves and trunks.
Rain drops on leaves make for excellent macro photography images and wet leaves
bring out colors even more.</span><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #6:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Eliminate overcast sky by using your telephoto lens to achieve tighter, more <a href="http://blog.juergenrothphotography.com/2012/05/intimate-new-england-landscape.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">Intimate Landscape</span></a> compositions that are more beneficial and interesting.</span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #7:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Look for warm autumn hues and combine them with their complementary colors for
high color contrast imagery; For example golden, yellow or orange foliage
combined with a saturated blue sky or red maple leaves works well with an
evergreen background, all making for fabulous autumn images.</span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span></b></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #8:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Photograph fall colors on bright sunny days at <a href="http://blog.juergenrothphotography.com/2011/06/photography-101-depth-of-field.html" style="color: blue;" target="_blank">Mid Range Aperture</a> settings to add additional depth to images
when including a blue sky in the compositions. The sunlight really makes the
colors pop.</span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #9:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Find inspiration in waterfalls framed by beautiful foliage colors or get close
with still tree leaves on the ground and on rocks in rushing creeks and brooks.
Overcast and cloudy sky provides excellent conditions for such photo objects.</span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn2n444aLLtWikm7plg3j8tLi6HIo3eSChcjCrROz8pkUAKHiaxKDyzrkSsnhDF_1q19XlxO0zKgccmiyqCn9tEwEzWfZu6Slm07laFOulAVp9Vljygy2OX6SHj1Gml5mHpwf5Z8pqcLSLRX99PWPo1P19U7eE0ddRcOnUyh1hqbtSFEhaYED4p8pgMEE/s1024/Lake-Winnipesaukee-New-Hampshire-Landscape-Photography-Images-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="683" data-original-width="1024" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn2n444aLLtWikm7plg3j8tLi6HIo3eSChcjCrROz8pkUAKHiaxKDyzrkSsnhDF_1q19XlxO0zKgccmiyqCn9tEwEzWfZu6Slm07laFOulAVp9Vljygy2OX6SHj1Gml5mHpwf5Z8pqcLSLRX99PWPo1P19U7eE0ddRcOnUyh1hqbtSFEhaYED4p8pgMEE/w400-h266/Lake-Winnipesaukee-New-Hampshire-Landscape-Photography-Images-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #10:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Photograph during the morning or afternoon sunlight when light is at its best
and leaves are sun-kissed by the beautiful sunlight thereby illuminating the
colors of fall foliage.</span><br />
</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #11:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Capture beautiful </span><span style="line-height: 115%;">autumn</span><span style="line-height: 115%;">, razor sharp and <a href="http://blog.juergenrothphotography.com/2011/01/mirror-like-photography-reflection-tips.html" style="color: blue;" target="_blank">Mirror-Like Reflections</a> in ponds and
lakes. Too windy for that ... no problem, create artistic impressionistic
images within the tiny waves or with foliage in motion.</span><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #12:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Saturate and intensify colors by underexposing your photos slightly.</span><br /></span></span>

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #13:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Use a <a href="http://blog.juergenrothphotography.com/2010/12/sturdy-tripod-for-sharper-image.html" style="color: blue;" target="_blank">Steady Tripod</a> or fast shutter speeds to maximize image quality.</span><br /></span></span>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><b><span style="line-height: 115%;">Photo Tip #14:</span></b><span style="line-height: 115%;">
Use the camera self timer, a cable release or remote release to trip the
shutter. If not using live view use mirror lock up to minimize camera shake and
blurry pictures.</span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfGXo9PU7jGmmyXoOUr8GCBntZB77pJ6PueA48d_gIbIqvXv4gHu769tB-VcJ3BgCUSjsyoDBMEokPQPexwpaSEJHK-mMwOO8sC4RFHfushJO1i-1Vp-8TFf_rwf4dUmsoRKjKmtaWbNuO6CFDHeAR9vhy3VVfcwdXHLggq1WahTLXaYLGCGxqvTRww-o/s1024/Albany-Covered-Bridge-New-Hampshire-Fall-Colors-Photography-Photos-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="674" data-original-width="1024" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfGXo9PU7jGmmyXoOUr8GCBntZB77pJ6PueA48d_gIbIqvXv4gHu769tB-VcJ3BgCUSjsyoDBMEokPQPexwpaSEJHK-mMwOO8sC4RFHfushJO1i-1Vp-8TFf_rwf4dUmsoRKjKmtaWbNuO6CFDHeAR9vhy3VVfcwdXHLggq1WahTLXaYLGCGxqvTRww-o/w400-h264/Albany-Covered-Bridge-New-Hampshire-Fall-Colors-Photography-Photos-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

I love chasing the light throughout my home state of Massachusetts, and also in the neighboring states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut. I find endless <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com">creative inspiration and beauty</a> here.
<p>New England is renowned for its stunning fall foliage and autumn colors. During the <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/art/fall+foliage">fall season</a>, the region's forests, mountains and lakes transform into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow, attracting tourists from around the world who come to witness this natural phenomenon.</p><p></p><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7urJTKMVyF-NpPyTcTq8K95ihtoeia6we-_iV7nR10jXmTOB98MD1-VYlUPiVNTT_AgERUtfVAXBNk4aX78GajaUN2y9BrcZNjSdAvElHslIGA28mhzcYKYXNzPiTvTRq-WEJeMjFjlVe32clhoCpE-wl58W26AEKYWEd0j0qsjgS8dJxE4Pf22S5UY/s1024/Rhode-Island-Stepstone-Stone-Falls-Fall-Foliage-Waterfall-Photography-Images-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="685" data-original-width="1024" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7urJTKMVyF-NpPyTcTq8K95ihtoeia6we-_iV7nR10jXmTOB98MD1-VYlUPiVNTT_AgERUtfVAXBNk4aX78GajaUN2y9BrcZNjSdAvElHslIGA28mhzcYKYXNzPiTvTRq-WEJeMjFjlVe32clhoCpE-wl58W26AEKYWEd0j0qsjgS8dJxE4Pf22S5UY/w400-h268/Rhode-Island-Stepstone-Stone-Falls-Fall-Foliage-Waterfall-Photography-Images-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <p></p><p>New England is famous for its <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/art/coastal">coastal villages, harbors and seafood</a>. <div style="text-align: justify;">
Capturing a full moon rise over <span class="st">The Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge, also or better known as the Newport Bridge, had been on my bucket list for many years. Following some research on the subject, it seemed to be a good time last time around. The moon was predicted to rise between one of the arches and then continue above this iconic <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" rel="noopener" target="_blank">New England</a> bridge in Rhode Island. So I decided to go! Upon arrival I started setting up tripod and 100-400 mm with a 1.4x teleconverter. As forecast the moon beautifully rose between the arch and above but the brightness was lacking. Ones brightness became acceptable it was above the bridge. I quickly improvised and moved set up around to create a symmetrical composition of the rectangular Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge with its triangle suspensions and the round full moon atop. Later on, I moved further around to capture other perspective and eventually changed to a wide-angle lens to capture the entire bridge with a bright full moon on top while the sunset light was still painting this Rhode Island scenery in beautiful warm hues. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The focal length was 435mm and an aperture setting of f/32 provided a shutter speed of 1/25 seconds at ISO100. During post-processing I applied noise reduction and mainly adjusted brightness, contrast, and color saturation, before removing image imperfection and sharpening the final digital photography image of <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Scenic-New-England/G00004ZHSvhgR8T4/I00001Wd5_yucPwU" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Full Moon over Rhode Island<span class="st"> Newport Bridge</span></a>.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Motif Number One in Rockport, MA on Cape Ann is an exceptional photo subject year-round. I love visiting this iconic landmark and spot north of Boston. The historic red fishing shack <span class="st">at Bearskin Neck</span> on <span class="st">Bradley Wharf</span> always stands out against the beautiful contrast of the warm hues of sunrise or sunset skies. My last visit brought me here at sunset and I was eager to capture another full moon rising across this picturesque working New England harbor and its fishing boat fleet. Temperatures were low, but not too bad compared to my last <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Massachusetts/G0000uFrJYrQlk.M/I0000w4mDhQxImrs" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Motif Number One Full Moon</a> adventure here. Upon arrival I first explored the views of Motif Number 1 from <span class="st">Bradley Wharf, the setting sun painted the harbor scenery in beautiful light. I used the time at hand to capture some more intimate shots of dinghies while also taking photos of the harbor. Ones it was time I worked my way over to the old boat ramp in Rockport. Research unveiled that the moon was going to rise right next to Motif #1. Three more photographers did their research as well and we shared doing the same thing while chatting it up a bit. Equipped with a Canon 100-400mm lens and a 1.4x telezomm converter I got to work. Cloud cover was a bit of a hurdle but also ended up being a blessing. The late night illuminated the scenery and clouds popped at the horizon in beautiful colors. The full moon showed no shyness that night and slowly but surely became more and more visible between the clouds. Ones bright and shiny, I was able to sneak in a bunch of moon photos before it disappeared between the clouds. Great night for nature and New England <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/art/moon" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Full Moon Photography</a>, so glad I made it out!</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">This past <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" target="_blank">New England Fall Foliage</a> season I traveled to Connecticut exploring Indian Well State Park. It's a recreational area along the west bank of Lake Housatonic near Shelton, CT. It also features Indian Well Falls, a 15-foot horsetail waterfalls with a beautiful pool at bottom. This Connecticut waterfall is only a short walk from the parking area and easy to reach, right up my sleeves.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<img alt="Indian-Well-Waterfalls-Connecticut-Fall-Foliage-Photography-Roth-Galleries-1" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-724" height="266" src="https://rothgalleries.files.wordpress.com/2019/12/indian-well-falls-connecticut-fall-foliage-photography-roth-galleries-1.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Fall foliage was still at peak or past peak with some leaf drop apparent. My Canon 16-35mm wide-angle lens allowed me to incorporate the circular gorge and pool while also adding some bright autumn colors at the top of the waterfall. A polarizing filter eliminated glare on the rocks and boosted color saturation. The filter also extended exposure times by approximately one stop allowing for a more pronounced silky water effect. On my way out and back to the car I explored the rushing cascades downstream of this stunning New England waterfall. This second photography image shows Indian Hole Brook with its surrounding environment, providing a good feel of the entire scenery around this <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Connecticut</a> State Park.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: large;">In the last photograph, I looked for more <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Photo-Cheat-Sheets/G0000KfMGob_Mi28/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Intimate Compositions</a> of the flowing waters and fallen leaves. There was a very photogenic area of moos covered rocks that were in beautiful contrast with orange leaves. I loved photographing here and spent a decent amount of time here trying different perspectives and compositions, could have photographed all day here. </span></div>

Fall in New England is a great time to explore and always get my blood stream going. One of New England's most iconic and scenic fall scenes is the white steeple Wonalancet Union Chapel. This place of worship is located in the town of Tamworth, NH, at the foot of the famous New Hampshire White Mountains. It is also the final resting place of Arthur and Kate Walden.</div>

On my visit during this year's New England fall foliage season I encountered the charming Wonalancet Union Chapel surrounded by beautiful autumn colors. The fall colors were peaking and provided a perfect backdrop while the field in front of the church was a great foreground element to lead viewers into the frame and towards the white steeple building. </div>

Chasing <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" rel="noopener" target="_blank">New England fall foliage</a> and peak colors is something I look forward to all year long. I usually start making photography plans shortly after leaves have dropped and a season comes to an end. This years 2019 New England fall foliage season was spectacular and I made several trips up north, south and west, visiting New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Unfortunately, I had to ditch Maine and Vermont this year but hope to visit during next years autumn season. This blog showcase some of my favorites from 2019. Enjoy!<br />

The other day I visited the iconic wooden boardwalk in Sandwich, MA on <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Cape-Cod/G0000YgMZTmCQA_U/" target="_blank">Cape Cod</a>. The weather forecast predicted partly cloudy skies which I was hoping would set the clouds on fire. Due to a very foggy start at this famous location, the sky fire never really materialized. At some point during the morning, however, the sky broke open for a few moments allowing to capture some beautiful sunrise light in the sky. The waters below the boardwalk were very quite at low tide, making for a great reflection of this wooden Cape Cod landmark.</div>

Cape Neddick is home to one of New England's most scenic lighthouses, <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Maine/G0000DectqkOMEv4/I0000hOS1NRoBYFY" target="_blank">Nubble Light</a>. This Maine lighthouse towers on top of a giant rock formation atop the twirling Atlantic Ocean. I love visiting and photographing this iconic landmark and usually do so at sunrise. The other week I set my alarm clock for 3 am and traveled up north to catch the first light here. The morning did not disappoint, light and cloud cover was great making for excellent photo conditions. Upon arrival I checked out new perspectives and views of the lighthouse. For this one I incorporated some of the rocks as foreground features while patiently waiting for the sun to rise across the horizon and paint the sky in beautiful hues. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Visiting and photographing Cape Cod and the Islands is always a lot of fun, but unbeatable fun with <a href="http://thomasgaitley.com/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Tom Gaitley</a>, a fellow member of the <a href="https://www.nephotographyguild.com/blog-2/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">New England Photography Guild</a>. During our last visit, we stopped at Nauset Beach Light to pursue a starry night and milky way shot. Nauset Light is an iconic <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/New-England-Lighthouses/G0000BUlki1up.Y8/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">New England Lighthouse</a>, located in the town of Eastham near Coastguard Beach along the National Seashore. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After arrival on location at about 10 pm, we immediately started scouting for interesting compositions of the lighthouse with the milky way location in mind. After a few test shots at high ISO settings to finalize focus and composition, I dialed in my initial camera settings. While patiently waiting for the milky way to rise into the desired position, I took multiple test shots, making adjustments and working my way towards the final milky way camera settings. Blowing out the night sky milky way and the bright Fresnel was a major concern, so I used a piece of paper that I positioned in front of my lens periodically during the long exposure time. Covering the lens with a cloth, your hand or a piece of paper allows less light in certain areas of the night sky and for more contrast between sky and milky way. Tom taught me that trick while on this iconic <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Massachusetts</a> lighthouse location and I wouldn't have gotten away with this image if he hadn't. So many thanks to him, and also to spark my inspiration and desire to capture more night milky way photography images in the future. The final camera settings were f/2.8, 25 seconds at ISO1600. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back home, I post-processed the final image <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Massachusetts/G0000uFrJYrQlk.M/I00006Oa_oKj244E" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Milky Way over Nausett Light</a> in lightroom and photoshop which may a topic for a future blog post.</div>

Bash Bish Falls is one of the most scenic and beautiful waterfalls in New England. So glad to have the falls relatively near by in Berkshires County of Massachusetts, 2 hours and 30 minutes from home to be precise. It's been a while since I came out here photographing waterfalls but last Friday time was right and I traveled to Western <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Massachusetts/G0000uFrJYrQlk.M/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Massachusett</a>s to visit my favorite waterfall in the Bay State. Upon arrival, rain was still coming down in a good pace. I grabbed an umbrella and walked the 3/4 mile from the parking area to the falls. The adrenaline level rose with each step I took alongside Bash Bish Brook, the roaring of the falls became apparent and louder as closer I got. Then you arrive at your final destination, looking straight ahead, facing these majestic falls. It's just amazing and I love this scenic waterfall view. Equipped with my Canon 24-70mm lens I got to work capturing this highest single drop waterfall. Rain and keeping the lens dry was a pain at first, but luckily it stopped raining soon after I started photographing. This made things more pleasant and easier, allowing for further exploration of this prime <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/New-England-Waterfalls/G0000JYXsgkZo42A/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Waterfall Photography</a> location.</div>
<br />
Using a 6 stop LeeFilters ND filter with an aperture of f/5.6 provided a long exposure shutter speed of 20 seconds at ISO200. During post processing I adjusted shadows, highlights, brightness, contrast and color saturation before removing image imperfections and sharpening the final Massachusetts waterfall photography image of <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/New-England-Waterfalls/G0000JYXsgkZo42A/" target="_blank">Bash Bish Falls State Park</a>.<br />

I got immediately to work upon arrival and equipped my <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras" target="_blank">Canon</a>

<br />
I always love getting into <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Boston/G00003cWcZlgWzHI/" target="_blank">BOSTON</a> during the early spring time. The Public Garden with its Swan Boats and blooming tulips is iconic. Beacon Hill is not far behind and equally stunning with its tree lined streets blossoming in beautiful colors and hues. This Boston photography image took a while to compose and then to capture was no picnic either. Car were constantly driving through the composition and so were Bostonians walking through the frame. Eventually I succeeded capturing an intimate <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" target="_blank">BOSTON BEACON HILL</a> scenery that represents its unique and historic charm. <br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The other week I visited <a href="http://www.magicwings.com/" target="_blank">Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory</a> in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. I met up with a bunch of like-minded friends and photo enthusiasts. We were able to gain early access to Magic Wings and bring in tripods with plenty of other gear. Butterflies were quietly resting and slowly starting their day. It was awesome having the place for a couple of hours to ourselves. I always like to use my tripod, even in bright daylight but it came in quite handy in this butterfly garden as it allowed for easier manual focusing. I started out with a 100mm macro lens but quickly switched to my 100-400mm lens. I actually prefer <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Insects/G0000OaVUpkvwGDo/" target="_blank">Photographing Butterflies</a> with a long lens as it blows out the background nicer and also provides a more manageable working distance to the butterflies. Where is your favorite butterfly garden?</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Bass Harbor Head Light is a picturesque New England lighthouse located within the boundaries of Maine <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" target="_blank">Acadia National Park</a>
on the southeast corner
of Mount Desert Island (MDI). This scenic lighthouse beautifully towers over the
swirling Atlantic Ocean and granite seacoast, marking the entrance for
boats and ships to Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay. It is
one of the most iconic scenery<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> </span>of Acadia National Park as <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/New-England-B-W/G0000rJOhVcsSYoI/" target="_blank">Bass Harbor Light</a> is

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Old Scituate Light on Cedar Point in Scituate, MA is one a heck of a great and iconic <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/art/lighthouse" target="_blank">New England Lighthouse</a> location. I love visiting here and this New England outdoors photo adventure awarded beautiful sunrise light and cloud cover. I approximately arrived 30 minutes before sunrise and immediately made my way up onto the seawall. The first thing that caught my eye was another photographer. After a brief hello I noticed a few lobster cage washed upon the seawall and pebble beach below the lighthouse. I immediately knew that those traps would find their way into my photography compositions as they were destined for great foreground elements. So, almost the entire photo shoot focused on those lobster cages and how to incorporate them with the lighthouse for stronger <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Seascape Photography</a> images. This was one of the later images when I was on my way back to the parking lot and car when I set up one more time. The early warm light painted the scenery in beautiful hues and I was unable to resist and call it a day. Glad I released the shutter this last time!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Aperture for this image was f/22 resulting in 1/10 of a second exposure time at ISO100. During post processing I adjusted brightness, lighting, saturation and contrast before removing dust spots and sharpening the final image of the historic <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/art/scituate" target="_blank">Scituate Lighthouse</a>.</span><br />

<a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" target="_blank"><img alt="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" border="0" data-original-height="683" data-original-width="1024" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3LsYnOqso7sut5NmCAEevhkCrzOR6ZdN3Jt8vHhc6YR63LGg7NMyIePCjxiEry22D9-53CotjPO-VRsAtHlq_3ww6QDIx1ir2ULFcdc40kzJwLUxFn1PG3GvOqcnEifWHyQ-A98oh5YY/s400/Massachusetts-Fall-Foliage-Photography-Roth-Galleries-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Waterfalls are best photographed with long shutter speed settings. Slow shutter speeds transform the falling water into a beautiful silky carpet of water; actually conveying the flow and energy within a 2-dimensional picture. Good exposure times for <a href="http://whereintheworldisjuergen.blogspot.com/2009/11/near-streams-rivers-and-cascading-water.html">Silky Water Effects</a> and particular for waterfalls are 1/2 to 1/15 of a second.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Experiment with your camera exposure settings like aperture, exposure times, ISO settings for optimal effects. Neutral density filter or polarizing filter extends exposure times and have other beneficial photo effects on your final <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/art/waterfall" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Waterfall Photography Images</a>.</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The skyline and architecture of <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Boston/G00003cWcZlgWzHI/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Boston</a> has changed dramatically over the last decade. New skyscrapers and building go up everywhere. The Seaport District and East Boston are booming providing new office and apartment space for The Hub. I love visiting East Boston and enjoying the view of the Boston Waterfront skyline at twilight. Sunset and sunrise provide pristine photography condition too. There is a brief moment at twilight when the city lights and sky are in harmony and at their best. It's this favorite time of day when I release the shutter. In this Boston Photography image I opted for a tighter more intimate composition. The Custom House of Boston or Marriott Hotel dominates the view while the skyline reflection and the pier provided a great foreground, leading the viewer towards the impressive <a href="https://www.rothgalleries.com/archive" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Boston Harbor skyline</a>.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">A Canon Mark IV camera with a 24-70<span class="text_exposed_show">mm wide-angle zoom lens was set at 59mm with an aperture</span> of f/8 allowing for an exposure time of 10 second at ISO200. During routine post processing I adjusted noise levels, contrast, brightness, and saturation before removing image imperfections and sharpening the final photograph of <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Boston/G00003cWcZlgWzHI/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Boston Waterfront Skyline</a>. </span><br />

<img alt="Monument Avenue Charlestown Massachusetts Boston" border="0" data-original-height="676" data-original-width="1024" height="263" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVO4CYR50LoyZj8y6TWLY_iaN6H1nQDK_-VMEfB6EFA3QXCwBP4bzDsIz9vhU0LuBZGoQAP1MeNgULjUwcbM2Tcld12K3C3zK2MoR7kuC4s6yL6iZhYVD6R-uqUFCxjIbQKQkRB97X_mQ/s400/Boston-Charlestown-Bunker-Hill-Monument-Avenue-Photography-Roth-Galleries-2.jpg" title="" width="400" /></div>
<br />
Monument Avenue is a beautiful street lined with antique lanterns and 19 century brickwork houses located in Charlestown, Massachusetts. This Boston neighborhood gem is hip, charming and has one of my favorite <a href="https://juergen-roth.pixels.com/featured/boston-view-from-charlestown-juergen-roth.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">View of Boston</a> <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Massachusetts/G0000uFrJYrQlk.M/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Massachusetts</a>. At night the lanterns exhibit a beautiful glow in warm hues, providing guiding lights and leading lines up Breed's Hill to the end of the Freedom Trail, the historic Bunker Hill Monument.<br />
<br />
For this particular images I arrived well before sunrise. After several attempts at the bottom of Breed's Hill I worked my way up towards the iconic <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Boston/G00003cWcZlgWzHI/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Boston</a> obelisk. Almost half way up, I found my composition for this landmark photograph. I liked the more intimate view of the monument that allowed to include the stunning 19 century brickwork architecture lining Monument Avenue.<br />

A Canon Mark IV camera with a 24-70<span class="text_exposed_show">mm wide-angle zoom lens was set at 46mm with an aperture</span> of f/11 allowing for an exposure time of 3.2 second at ISO200. During routine post processing I combined three exposure to capture the entire light spectrum, adjusted noise levels, contrast, brightness, saturation before removing image imperfections and sharpening the final photograph of <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Florida/G00000CoTKYfEh_A/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Monument Avenue</a> in Boston Charlestown, MA.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Wakodahatchee Wetlands is of the best birding locations in <a href="https://juergenroth.photoshelter.com/gallery/Florida/G00000CoTKYfEh_A/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Florida</a>. The abundance of birds amazes me every time I visit this nature photography paradise. At one of my latest travels to this birding hotspot I decided to capture a sunrise here. I picked a spot not far from the entrance along the wooden boardwalk. Upon arrival I was the only bird photographer on location although as closer sunrise approached, as more birding enthusiasts and nature photographers showed up. Tripod, camera and wide angle lens in place I patiently waited for the sunrise magic to unfold. The island and trees in front of me were filled with birds and made for a great foreground element. Clouds and sky burne up beautifully in the wee hours. I decided to incorporate the pavilion to show more of the birds environment and what a great spot Wakodahatchee is for birding and bird photography. The Great Blue Heron played along and struck an iconic and recognizable pose. The other birds kept relatively quiet allowing for a decent exposure in low light.</span></div>
